TNBI Touch Rugby Taster Session with the Sea Serpents and The Clare Project
Curious about touch rugby? Want to try a new sport in a welcoming, trans-inclusive environment? Come join the Sea Serpents at Hove Rugby Club for a friendly TNBI (Trans, Non-Binary & Intersex) touch rugby taster session, in partnership with The Clare Project.
Whether you’ve never picked up a rugby ball before or already love team sports, this session is designed to be beginner-friendly, supportive, and fun. It’s trans-led and Clare Project facilitator Liz will be on hand for support.
What to Expect
The session will run from 1pm–3pm, followed by time to socialise in the clubhouse afterwards.
Session Schedule
15 mins — Club walk round
10 mins — Warm up
10 mins — Warm up game & learning to pass
5 mins — Water break
10 mins — Intro game to learn the rules
5 mins — Break & question time
10 mins — Learning to buddy (2-person drive)
10 mins — Soft touch games
5 mins — Water break
25 mins — Touch games
5 mins — Warm down
The clubhouse will be open afterwards, and snacks and drinks will be available.
What to Wear / Bring
Please wear comfortable sportswear such as:
Gym shorts
Sports tops
Sports skorts/leggings
Footwear such as:
Trainers
Trail running shoes
Plastic studs/football boots (optional)
You may also want to bring:
Suncream
Hat and/or sunglasses
A water bottle or hydrating drink
Accessibility & Participation Information
Touch rugby involves movement including walking, jogging/running, passing, and catching a ball. Activities will include a mixture of standing, walking, and optional periods of jogging/running, with regular breaks throughout.
You are welcome to:
Step out and rest at any point
Take things at your own pace
Ask questions at any time
If you need to head inside during the session, please let one of the organisers know so we know you’re okay.
The coaches are happy to:
Explain drills and rules in different ways
Adapt coaching styles to individual needs
Support people who are completely new to rugby
Fingerless rugby gloves can also be used if they help with grip or comfort.

Changing rooms and showers are available after the session
