Where is the location?
Lovebrook is nestled at the foot of The South Downs, in the picturesque village of Kingston. We are a 33 acre ecological farm, with a wide variety of community and agroecological projects taking place here. These include regular volunteer days, outreach and ecotherapeutic work, a market garden and veg box scheme, Saturday farm shop and cafe, campsite, orchard and food forest. We are a non-profit CIC (community interest company), so any income we make on the farm, including proceeds from this retreat, go back into sustaining the community and outreach work we do here.
What’s in the area?
Kingston has a lovely village pub, The Juggs, just a few steps from the farm. It’s a traditional old pub which is perfect for an evening sundowner in the beer garden or around the fire. We are just a couple of miles from the market town of Lewes, which is famous for its antique shops, Harveys Brewery, and plenty of coffee shops, restaurants and artisan shops. Or if you want a bit more action, then the bright lights of Brighton are just 7 miles away, on an easy car or bus route.
What will the food be like?
In a word, delicious! Emma is a fabulous retreat chef with years of experience catering for events just like this. All the food will be vegetarian (with dairy as an option), organic and chemical free, with as much as possible grown on site and sourced locally. There will be 6 meals provided: Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, Sunday breakfast & lunch. All meals will be hearty and filling, but feel free to bring extra snacks if you wish! There will be tea, coffee, milk and herbal teas available at all meal times. Meals will be served community style in our covered central barn.
Where do we stay?
This is a camping weekend so you will need to bring your own tent and camping equipment. The retreat guests will have exclusive use of our campsite during the weekend. It’s a beautiful spot, with just a few pitches mown in the long grass, connected by pathways to cause minimal disruption to the land. Cars stay in the car park and you use a wheelbarrow to get your stuff to the field. We have two compost toilets, a handwashing sink and a warm shower. It’s back to basics, and very beautiful.
