Look after yourself!

It's easy to spend so much time thinking about what's going wrong in the world that you forget to notice what's still here.

So, after watching a film about climate and nature breakdown, perhaps the best thing you can do is go outside. Walk through your local park. Sit under a tree. Watch the birds, listen to the wind, notice what's growing around you. You don't need to do anything productive. You don't need to turn it into a mindfulness exercise or a challenge to complete. Just be there.

Nature is something we're fighting to protect, but it's also something that can look after us. Spending time outside, appreciating the places and creatures around us, can help us feel grounded in what we're trying to preserve.

And there is still so much to appreciate. The fact that spring will come again. That there are still wildflowers growing through pavements, birds nesting in our gardens and fish returning to waterways. That people are working incredibly hard to restore and protect the natural world, often quietly and locally.

Looking after yourself isn't giving up or looking away. You can't pour from an empty cup, and caring about the future shouldn't mean forgetting to experience the present.

Take a walk. Notice something beautiful. Let yourself feel grateful for what we still have, and let that be part of what keeps you going.
