Who are SPIN?

Founded in 2005 as a constituted voluntary organisation (unincorporated association)

SPIN aims to improve the knowledge and awareness of useful organisations and provide this information proactively to single parent families in Brighton & Hove & surrounding areas of Sussex via our Facebook group www.facebook.com/groups/SPINsingleparents

SPIN aims to empower and improve the wellbeing of single parents by offering information about low cost and free activities, events, training, goods etc   This promotes fairness for single parent families who do not receive financial support from their other partner

SPIN promotes shared care between separated parents and single parents may join whether as a sole carer or joint carer.

SPIN is volunteer run and free to join (73% of our members find out about us through word of mouth recommendation)

Who do they need?

PERSONAL ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR
Skills & Experience      

Essential (E) / Desirable (D)

  • Initiative E

  • Confident computer skills, including Outlook, Word and Excel E

  • Ability to organise tasks, prioritise and manage time effectively E

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills E

  • Comfortable learning new systems and procedures E

  • Proactive, adaptable, happy to work independently as well as in team E

  • Experience taking minutes of meetings D

When do they need you?

Long term commitment to develop both the role and improve the capacity of the Director to deliver services.  The person will be able to utilise existing skills or develop them as long as they have the essential skills listed.
However 6 months would be considered the minimum time to enable the person to familiarise yourself with SPIN and be effective.

What do they need you for?

  • Follow up contacts and information as directed

  • organise meetings

  • draft emails and documents

  • Liaise with venues, organisations, funders

  • Data input

  • attend monthly meetups for members (desirable but not essential)

  • This role will enable you to learn about the community & voluntary sector if this is the type of job you may be considering  

  • There will be training opportunities

  • It is understood that applicants may be job hunting during this period of volunteering and references will be available during and after the role ends.
