Volunteer with Dad La Soul!
Who are Dad La Soul?
NOT YOUR AVERAGE DAD GROUP.
Help redefine fatherhood through connection
Dad La Soul exists to tackle isolation, champion emotionally engaged fatherhood and create spaces where dads and male carers feel seen, heard and supported.
As we grow, more dads are reaching out. More communities are asking for connection. More families need safe, welcoming spaces.
Volunteers are what make that possible.
Why we need you
Every playdate.
Every conversation.
Every moment of honest connection.
It only happens because someone shows up.
Our volunteers help us:
Create inclusive, welcoming spaces for dads and children
Reduce loneliness and isolation
Keep support peer-led and real
Grow into new towns and communities
Reach fathers who might otherwise struggle alone
Without volunteers, this doesn’t happen.
With them, we build something that lasts.
We are recruiting volunteers across three complementary roles that work together to create safe, welcoming and enjoyable sessions for fathers and families.
Our Backstage Crew volunteers are warm, approachable people who can help families feel comfortable from the moment they arrive. They are good listeners, reliable, organised without being rigid, comfortable talking with adults and children, and able to spot when someone may need a friendly conversation or extra reassurance.
Who do they need?
Our Soul Patrol volunteers are calm, flexible team players who are happy to muck in with practical tasks before, during and after sessions. They can read the room, work well with others, adapt to changing situations and help create a positive atmosphere where families feel included.
Our Choir Starter volunteers are people who can listen without judgement, respect confidentiality and boundaries, remain calm under pressure, and are comfortable talking about real life, including the difficult bits. Lived experience of fatherhood or caring is important.
Across all three roles, we are not looking for perfect people or experts. We are looking for volunteers who genuinely care about creating positive spaces for fathers and families, are dependable, welcoming and committed to helping every dad feel that they belong.
When do they need you?
We are looking for volunteers that can do a minimum of 6 sessions a year. The sessions run monthly on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
What do they need you for?
Our volunteers work together across three complementary roles to help every Dad La Soul session run safely, smoothly and warmly. Some volunteers focus on welcoming families, registering attendees and helping people feel at ease from the moment they arrive. Others provide practical support by setting up and packing away activities, keeping sessions running smoothly and helping create an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels they belong. Our peer support volunteers are available to listen, encourage conversation where it feels natural, model respectful discussion, notice when someone may need additional support, and gently signpost dads to other services where appropriate. Together, these roles help create spaces where fathers feel comfortable, connected and able to return.
In return, volunteers gain valuable experience in community engagement, inclusive group facilitation, peer support and teamwork within a supportive organisation. They build confidence, develop communication and listening skills, and become part of a community committed to improving the wellbeing of fathers and families. Volunteers receive ongoing support, can request references for employment or study where appropriate, and receive free access to Dad La Soul sessions after volunteering at more than six events each year. Most importantly, they see first-hand the difference they make by helping fathers feel less isolated, strengthening family connections, and creating welcoming community spaces that many dads say they wish they had found much sooner.
